Charity Golf Day Hits All The Right Notes
Roof Handler’s Charity Golf Day hit all the right notes again this year, raising a total of R10,000 for a local organisation.
More than 40 guests participated in the event at Sedgefield Links, which was titled ‘Around The World In 18 Holes’. Players on the day included local architects and construction industry professionals, as well as representatives from the event’s main sponsors. They were also joined on the course by PGA Professional, Nico-James Visser.
All of the proceeds from the day were donated to LIFE Community Services – a George-based NPO working with thousands of orphaned and vulnerable children each week. These funds will be utilised to extend the existing music facilities through the installation of a container at the organisation’s main hub. This hub is strategically located at a busy 4-way intersection leading to some of the most-needy communities in and around George. Music is not only a valuable developmental tool, but it also provides the children with a platform to express themselves creatively.
Maryna de Vries, CEO of LIFE Community Services, said: “For the staff and leadership at LIFE Community Services it is our calling to touch lives and mend hearts. We are honoured and blessed that Roof Handler – a successful business in the area – has such confidence in our integrity that they chose to partner with us by donating the proceeds from the Golf Day.
“It is a challenge to meet the needs of so many children who attend our programmes and one of the greatest stumbling blocks is a lack of resources. We do, however, believe in making stepping stones out of these stumbling blocks and using the opportunities granted to us by such a generous gift to fulfill our commission.”
Roof Handler is a distributor of high-quality roofing and insulation products in the Southern Cape, including roof sheeting, insulation boards and blankets, and roofing-related accessories. It is a member of the Youngman Roofing Group.
Lisa Christie, Director of Roof Handler, said: “LIFE has been transforming the lives of orphaned and vulnerable children in our local community for almost 18 years and the organisation’s main hub is located just a short drive from our factory store. Education is also a topic that is close to my heart, which is why we decided to name LIFE as the beneficiary for this year’s event.
“We’d like to extend a huge thank you to all of the sponsors who made the day possible in the first place, particularly Youngman Roofing, Corroshield South Africa, Palram Industries, BlueScope Steel, Rigifoam, Cape Cladding, Sedge Links and Volkswagen Knysna.”
