5 Things To Consider When Buying Roof Sheeting
To make the decision process a little easier, we’ve rounded up five things you should consider when choosing a new roof for your home.
1. Roof Pitch – What is the slope of your roof?
The pitch of your roof is the most important factor when it comes to selecting a profile. From concealed fix to pierced fix and Diamondek to Widek, there is a lot of choice on the market and the final decision is based on numerous technical factors. However, a very good rule of thumb is the following:
1-5 degree fall: Concealed fix sheeting i.e. Snaplok or Diamondek
5-8 degree fall: IBR profile
7.5 + degree fall: Widek profile
8 + degree fall: Corrugated profile
2. Cover Width – How wide are the roofing sheets?
The number of sheets that you need to cover your roofing structure will have a direct impact on the overall cost. When deciding on a profile, compare the effective cover width of the different options available. Choosing a profile with a greater cover width, such as Widek, can help you to save money.
3. Distance – How far is your home from the ocean or an industrial area?
This is a question which is commonly overlooked in the decision making process. If your home is located near to the ocean or an industrial area, then you will need to choose a more robust material that can withstand these harsh environments. Clean Colorbond® ULTRA and COLORPLUS® Ultima have been specifically designed for these applications, as they both offer a thicker coating for superior corrosion resistance.
4. Quality Of The Product – How long will the roofing sheets last?
It’s often so easy to choose the cheapest option, but when it comes to re-roofing your home we don’t recommend cutting any corners. Investing in a higher-quality material that is proven in the marketplace will ensure you don’t end up being left with hefty repair bills or replacement costs further down the line.
However, it’s important to note here, that any material you choose needs to be installed correctly as well. If your chosen roofing material isn’t installed correctly, then this can harm its lifespan and void the manufacturer’s warranty.
5. Accessories – What accessories will you need?
When choosing your material and profile, you will also have to consider the additional accessories required for the installation. These include things such as roofing screws, flashings, vents and closures. We can also help you to choose the right accessories to ensure you end up with roof that is not only functional, but also improves the aesthetic appearance of your home.
